Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. 1. Purpose. The purpose of this manual is to provide guidance in enviromental engineering for coastal shore protection projects. 2. Applicability. This manual applies to all field operating activities that have responsibility for environmental impact studies related to coastal shore protection projects. 3. Discussion. This manual summarizes research and field experience gained in the area of environmental engineering for coastal shore protection. It addresses both natural and human induced changes in the coastal zone; the structural and nonstructural measures that coastal engineers employ against these changes; and the desirable and adverse impacts of the measures. This manual is intended to be compatible and used in conjunction with other OCE engineering manuals and the coastal Engineering Research Center's "Shore Protection Manual." As new information becomes available the manual will be periodically revised.
